BLIND man caught on camera cruising scooter through busy streets after hiding disability with sunglasses

The man claims to have been riding his scooter for years with only the help of his other senses – and his wife

A blind man was caught on camera cruising through a busy street on a motorcycle with his wife on the backseat to guide him.

The man, known only as Roa, claims to have been riding his scooter in Yichun City in East China’s Jiangxi Province for years with only the help of his “senses”.

In the clip Rao, who works as a masseur, is seen weaving through traffic with his wife keeping watch to alert him to any danger.

When the couple arrive at their destination, his wife then helps him off the bike before guiding him inside.

He rides his motorcycle once a month to see his mum, who lives 30km away in a mountain village, according to People’s Daily Online.

Rao’s “skill” was first made public when people in a passing car noticed that he was riding his motorcycle with his eyes closed.

It is understood to have been filmed by a disbelieving motorist who was presumably gobsmacked when he spotted the man speed past on the bike.

The video has now gone viral on social media in China.

Rao claims to have been able to hide his condition from the authorities for years by wearing sunglasses, which he left at home on the day the viral video was filmed.

He chose to ride his motorcycle to visit his mother to save a round-trip bus fare of 40 RMB (£4).

Since being posted Chinese internet users have reacted with amazement to the video of Rao and his wife.

“Is he fully blind? How does he balance?” asked one online commentator incredulously.

Another said: “This man is incredible. But I don’t understand one thing. Did he go blind after he learned how to ride a motorbike or the other way around?”
