Yuri Hvtisishvili wanted to do something to occupy himself when he ran short of work during a slow period. Along with having a passion for carpentry, he also has a love of Soviet motorbikes and so he gave himself the challenge of carving a full scale model of such a motorbike.

He chose the IL-49 due to its very distinctive seating and the gas tank and hand carved every part of the motorcycle himself, including all the small bolts and other intricate details. In short he made every single inch and part of the bike from scratch using beech and pine wood.

The project took the master carpenter four months to complete from start to finish and there is very little doubt that he is very skilled in his work. You can see in the pictures that he has carved everything from the spokes on the wheel to the tread on the tires, with the tank having a panel that opens on the top and a speedometer with needle.
